About Us

What Medical Psychotherapy Services Provides

A psychoanalytically informed assessment consisting of two sessions (75mins for the first and 50mins for the second) arriving at a formulation and recommendations of what might be helpful. This may include a form of psychotherapy such as psychoanalytic psychotherapy, mentalisation based therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy etc. and/or medication.

Where indicated, an extended consultation and brief psychological interventions, usually consisting of 6 - 12 sessions may be offered.

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is predominantly long term 50minute sessions, several times a week.  It aims to explore links between conscious and unconscious aspects of the mind that may be contributing to the presenting difficulties and distress.

The British Psychoanalytic Council have produced a helpful leaflet for anyone looking into psychotherapy. Please click here.

For couples and families psychoanalytically informed therapy aims to explore patterns that may have arisen and maintained leading to difficulties in relationships.

For organisations: Dr Jeewa can facilitate reflective practice groups to explore team dynamics with a view to improving individual functioning and overall team cohesion.

Who can benefit from the service?

An assessment is often experienced as a helpful first step, looking at the themes and/or difficulties one is experiencing in their life.

At times one has an idea of what might be going on; an assessment can confirm your ideas. Alternatively one may find it quite challenging to make sense of one’s experiences. In either case, it can be helpful to formulate a coherent narrative.

Psychotherapy aims to deepen ones understanding of themselves, relationships with one’s self and others and work through past and present difficulties.

Where one prefers to focus on symptomatic relief a more structured medical or cognitive behavioural approach may be preferable.
